Speaking Module 19: Talking About Celebrations and Holidays

This module teaches learners how to describe holiday traditions, share how they celebrate, and ask others about their festivities.

1. Describing Holiday Traditions

“We always celebrate [holiday] with [activity].”

Describes how you celebrate a specific holiday. Example: “We always celebrate Easter with an egg hunt for the kids.”

“During [holiday], we usually [activity].”

Highlights usual activities during a holiday. Example: “During New Year’s Eve, we usually watch fireworks.”

“It’s a tradition to [activity].”

Focuses on specific holiday customs. Example: “It’s a tradition to light candles during Diwali.”

2. Asking About Celebrations

“How do you usually celebrate [holiday]?”

Asks someone about their holiday traditions.

“What’s your favorite part of [holiday]?”

Encourages the speaker to share personal highlights of a holiday.

“Do you have any special traditions for [holiday]?”

Focuses on unique customs. Example: “Do you have any special traditions for Halloween?”

3. Talking About Favorite Holidays

“My favorite holiday is [holiday] because [reason].”

Explains personal preferences for holidays.

“I really enjoy [holiday] because [reason].”

Describes what makes a holiday special. Example: “I really enjoy Valentine’s Day because it’s fun to give and receive gifts.”
