One learning ecology

Why these fields belong together

English expands access to knowledge and opportunity. Peace education helps people use knowledge with dignity and responsibility. Research reveals the causes, relationships, and systems beneath visible problems.

Together they form a learning ecology: access opens the door, critical inquiry clarifies the world, ethical development guides action, and public knowledge strengthens the capacity to build more peaceful conditions.

The foundation’s evolving purpose

Born from unequal opportunity, enlarged by a lifelong inquiry

The foundation grew from the experience of a rural learner who had little access to English-speaking environments, and from a later journey across classrooms, cultures, refugee communities, democratic struggles, and societies wounded by conflict.

Its original concern with access and empowerment has matured into a wider question: what kind of learning helps people become freer without becoming instruments of harm—and helps societies become more just without surrendering humanity?

What guides us

Five commitments across all our work

01

Human dignity

Learning should never require humiliation or dehumanization.

02

Meaningful access

Birthplace and income should not determine the right to practice and grow.

03

Critical inquiry

Claims deserve evidence; systems and assumptions deserve examination.

04

Ethical agency

Freedom matures when joined with restraint, accountability, and care.

05

Continuous learning

Ideas should be tested, corrected, revised, and extended as understanding grows.
