Speak Like a Native Speaker: Lesson 1

Introducing Yourself and Making Small Talk

Directions:

  1. Listen: Play the audio and listen carefully to how the sentences are pronounced.
  2. Repeat: Repeat each sentence aloud, trying to mimic the native speaker as closely as possible.
  3. Practice: Use these sentences in conversations with friends or classmates.
  4. Reflect: Think about which sentences feel natural and practice using them in real-life situations.

Sample Sentences:

1. Hi, I don’t think we’ve met before. I’m [Your Name].
2. It’s great to finally meet you! I’ve heard so much about you.
3. So, how are things going with you these days?
4. I really like your [bag/shirt/watch]. Where did you get it?
5. How’s everything at work/school?
6. It’s been a while since we last talked. How have you been?
7. Oh, by the way, I loved your presentation last week.
8. What do you think of the weather today? It’s been [so sunny/rainy].
9. So, what brings you here today?
10. Are you into [sports/music/travel]?
11. That’s interesting! Could you tell me more about it?
12. I noticed you’re reading [book title]. How are you finding it?
13. Have you tried the [dish] here? It’s my favorite.
14. Did you catch the game last night? What a finish!
15. Oh, excuse me—do you happen to know where the [restroom/meeting room] is?
16. It was so nice chatting with you. Let’s do this again sometime!
17. Hey, I’m curious—what made you choose [topic/job/major]?
18. So, are you from around here, or are you visiting?
19. I don’t want to keep you if you’re busy, but it was great catching up!
