How it works. Each set is one episode of a continuing story set at the front desk of the Riverside Hostel in Bangkok, where a young receptionist named Ning meets travelers from around the world. Every episode practices the grammar people need for one real purpose, such as asking for help, giving directions, making suggestions, or apologizing. Read the whole conversation first, then choose. Grammar in Conversation · Asking for and Giving Directions
Each gap is part of a real conversation. Choose the option that is grammatically correct and natural in the situation. Notice who is speaking and what they want to do: ask, offer, apologize, suggest, or explain.
Aiko: Excuse me. Could you tell me how to the Grand Palace?
Ning: Sure. The easiest way is the river boat. First, out of the hostel and turn left. Walk the end of the street, and you’ll see the pier your right.
Aiko: How often the boats come?
Ning: Every ten to fifteen minutes. Make sure you the boat with the orange flag.
Aiko: How long ?
Ning: About twenty minutes. Get off Tha Chang pier. When you get off, the palace right in front of you.
Aiko: Is it from the pier?
Ning: No, it’s only five minutes foot. But that the palace has a dress code.
Aiko: A dress code? What wear?
Ning: You cover your shoulders and knees. If you long trousers, you can borrow a sarong at the entrance.
Aiko: Thank you! And how back here afterward?
Ning: Just take the same boat the other direction. Our pier is the third stop after Tha Chang.
Aiko: That sounds .
Ning: It is. And if you lost, call the hostel.
