Building a Strong Application Timeline
Planning ahead is critical for successfully applying to colleges in the United States. Below, we outline a comprehensive timeline to help you stay on track throughout the process.
1. Two Years Before Applying (Grade 10 or Earlier)
- Start researching colleges and programs that interest you.
- Engage in extracurricular activities that align with your interests and goals.
- Work on improving your academic performance and building strong relationships with teachers for future recommendation letters.
- Explore standardized tests like the SAT or ACT to understand their formats.
2. One Year Before Applying (Grade 11)
- Spring: Take the SAT/ACT for the first time and identify areas for improvement.
- Summer: Visit campuses, attend virtual information sessions, and begin drafting your personal statement.
- Shortlist colleges and create a list of safety, match, and reach schools.
3. Fall of Application Year (Grade 12)
