Reported Speech Adventure: Intermediate Learners
Quick Guide to Reported Speech
Reported speech (indirect speech) is how we share what someone said without quoting them directly. Here’s the lowdown!
- Statements: Change “I’m tired” to He said he was tired. (Tense shifts back!)
- Questions: “Where are you?” becomes She asked where I was. (No question mark, word order flips!)
- Commands/Requests: “Sit down!” turns to He told me to sit down. (Use “to” for commands!)
- Tense & Pronouns: “I’ll go” becomes She said she would go. (Will → would, I → she!)
Watch for time shifts (today → that day) and place changes (here → there). Ready for 200 challenges? Let’s go!
