Lesson 8: Making Plans and Suggestions

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to make plans with others and suggest activities. Being able to plan and coordinate is essential in social and work settings, helping you connect with others and work efficiently.

Tutorial

Here are some common phrases for making plans:

  • Do you want to [activity]?: e.g., “Do you want to go for a walk?”
  • How about we [activity]?: e.g., “How about we try that new café?”
  • Let’s [activity]: e.g., “Let’s go to the movies this weekend.”
  • Are you free to [activity]?: e.g., “Are you free to hang out tomorrow?”
  • What do you think about [activity]?: e.g., “What do you think about going to a concert?”

When responding to suggestions, you might say:

  • That sounds great!
  • Good idea! I’d love to.
  • Sure, let’s do it.
  • Sorry, I can’t. Maybe another time?
  • I’d prefer something else. How about [alternative suggestion]?

To politely suggest or offer an alternative plan, you could say:

  • Maybe we could [alternative activity]: e.g., “Maybe we could have a picnic instead.”
  • Why don’t we try [alternative activity]?: e.g., “Why don’t we try that new Italian restaurant?”
  • If you’d like, we could [activity]: e.g., “If you’d like, we could go hiking.”
